Due to not having recovered from his injury, Leo Messi will miss the match between Inter Miami and Columbus Crew in the Leagues Cup.
At 6:30 a.m. tomorrow morning (August 14), Inter Miami will host Columbus Crew in the round of 16 of the Leagues Cup. Currently, President David Beckham’s team is the reigning champion of this tournament. Inter Miami won a title for the first time in history when they won the Leagues Cup last season.
At the press conference before the Columbus Crew match, coach Tata Martino confirmed that Messi will not play. Even the Argentine military leader did not say when El Pulga would return.
As is known, Messi twisted his ankle in the 2024 Copa America final between Argentina and Colombia. According to the initial diagnosis, the former Barça captain will rest between 4 and 6 weeks.
It’s been almost a month but Messi still has to train separately and cannot take part in training sessions with the entire team. According to AS , this is a sign that the 37-year-old striker’s recovery process is not going as well as expected.
During his recovery, Messi often went on vacation with his family. In a photo shared on Instagram a day ago, Messi did not have to wear ankle protection like before.
Fortunately for Inter Miami, during Messi’s absence, coach Tata Martino’s team performed quite well in Leagues Cup and MLS.
As previously reported, Inter Miami reached the round of 16 of the Leagues Cup, and in the American professional tournament, the team of president David Beckham topped the Eastern region standings with 5 points more than the second-placed Cincinnati team (53 vs. 48).
