“Windows to your Soul” is the Shakespearian metaphor we often use to describe the eyes. You can really see true feelings, if you pay attention. Cats’ eyes are captivating, hypnotic, even. Cats rely on their visual acuity for tasks like hunting, assessing danger, or tracking and swatting at that elusive glow from your laser pointer. Sadly, Prince Louis the cat got really close to losing his eyesight.

Enter Prince Louis, The Cat

A lovely four-year-old Maine Coon stray cat arrived at the Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home, located in Cambridge, UK. Unfortunately, it was evident that he was in a very poor condition. He suffered from a heart murmur, nasal discharge, and multiple surface wounds, very likely the result of cat fighting. But the most worrisome of his injuries was located in his eyes: he was diagnosed with “Feline Entropion”. Volunteers at the CDCH named this lovely feline soul ‘Prince Louis’.

Feline Entropion

Entropion is an uncomfortable medical condition in which the eyelid folds inward. This causes the eyelashes to constantly rub against the cornea, causing irritation. And, when it goes untreated, serious bacterial infection that can lead to permanent blindness. Persian and Maine Coon cat breeds like Prince Louis, have a higher incidence of this affliction, along with purebred dogs, particularly Bloodhounds.

Despite all odds stacked against him, Prince Louis never lost his zest for life. Caretakers at the CDCH like Mina Fuge commented:

“Even though he arrived in our care in a bad way, he has always been such a happy fun-loving boy who wants nothing more than playtime and cuddles.”

He was described as playful and affectionate, definitely soaking up all the extra fuss and attention thrown his way.

Thanks to the generosity of supporters, Prince Louis underwent the surgery he desperately needed. And he made a much needed comeback!

A Prince And His Subjects

Not only did the cheeky royal make a full recovery, but he also found his forever home!

Prince Louis’s adopted subjects said: “Prince Louis has become king of the castle and our hearts. He settled right in, stealing my daughter’s bed and my youngest child’s lego. He acts just like a kitten.”

Thanks to the tireless efforts of the kind and loving souls of volunteers, furry friends find much needed happiness and comfort, awaiting for someone to reciprocate an everlasting friendship and companionship. Everyday, pets up for adoption peek right through our eyes and into our hearts, and they need our help. Adoption is the best option.

I guess one can wholeheartedly say that in Prince Louis’ case, love and generosity saved the curious cat. Prince Louis and his subjects lived happily ever after…
