When we last saw Joffrey, he was just beginning the long road to recovery after being set on fire in July 2024. Thankfully police were called and there was an arrest with charges filed. The sweet cat was rescued and rushed to an emergency vet office by the officers. He was later taken under the care of the Humane Society of Greater Dayton, Ohio. However, his burns were so severe he needed to be transferred to the Ohio State University Veterinary Center. But he had some very caring and loving people helping him take those all important first steps towards healing.

Slowly but surely, his wounds began to heal.
The healing process for burn victims is not easy nor comfortable in any sense. But Joffrey wasn’t just receiving the best care possible due to all the donations received on his behalf. He was surrounded by love, hope and pawsitivity. His worst wound was becoming smaller, but some other areas were being monitored for possible issues. They were worried that he may later require a skin graft on one of his legs, but were hopeful.
“Additionally, the aggressive antibiotic treatment given to him to combat his severe infection is working and Joffrey is steadily improving in this area as well. We’re incredibly grateful for the ongoing support and positive energy from all of you as we navigate this journey together.”

A few weeks later, another update on the easily loved kitten was shared.
“Thanks to your incredible support, Joffrey’s spirit remains unbroken and he is making amazing strides in his recovery! Despite still continually being on pain medications, antibiotics and daily bandage changes, Joffrey’s wounds are on the mend! The wounds he sustained in the fire are continuing to heal and with each passing day, he shows less discomfort. He’s a purring, cuddle-loving machine who thrives on affection from his medical team. Plus, Joffrey’s appetite is in full swing and he is eating like a champ! He’s gobbling up his meals with enthusiasm, a sure sign his body is getting the nourishment it needs to heal.”
“That being said, Joffrey’s hearing remains unaffected and we like to think that his lack of ears makes him even more adorable.”
Welcome Home Joffrey
The beginning of October 2024 brought exciting news for all Joffrey’s fans online and his rescuers.
“After spending months at the Ohio State Veterinary Center – after many surgeries, operations and procedures – Joffrey is coming home to Dayton! Today, we picked him up from OSU and are bringing him home! We may have some more wonderful news to share tomorrow, but for now know this little guy has survived some of the most horrific things and has shown his fighting spirit over and over again! We never gave up on Joffrey and neither did any of you! This has been a fantastic day in the making! Thank you all for your support, your love and all the good thoughts you have sent this way! This little guy may still have a few challenges ahead of him, but he’s alive and getting a second chance thanks to all of you!!”
The rescue wasn’t done spreading happy tears around just yet though. Only 2 days later, they shared the best post they could ever ask for!
A vet tech that had been one of the first to treat Joffrey at the initial emergency vet came to check on him. He had only been back in Dayton for one day. But she wasn’t there to just see how he was doing. He had won her over long before that.
“Moved by his resilience and eager to give him the love he deserved, she filled out an adoption application. She understands the challenges he faces ahead of him, but is determined to provide him with the ongoing care and affection he needs to thrive. That’s right, Joffrey has found a new forever home! As Joffrey embarks on this new chapter of his life with his new family, we are filled with excitement for all the wonderful moments ahead. Thank you, Joffrey, for touching our hearts and showing us all the true meaning of bravery and love.”
“We also want to extend our deepest thanks and gratitude to every single person that supported him and gave him the encouragement and love he needed to get through this horrific situation. Our community here in Dayton is so amazing and we are just so beyond grateful to be surrounded by so many animal lovers. We like to think that Joffrey’s journey is a powerful reminder of resilience—the bond between animals and humans, and the unwavering spirit of love. His story has inspired us all with hope, demonstrating that even in the darkest of times, compassion can shine through.”
