If nightmares were actual life, it would definitely be Buddy’s.
Even though he is still a puppy at just one year of age, Buddy has already been through so much. This poor Great Dane mix was found roaming the streets of Texas, far from a decent life.
When finally found and offered a warm and cozy home, Buddy felt happiness – for the first time.
Then, another heartbreak unfolded. This time, it was a big one!
Buddy’s Heartbreaking Story
A couple of kind humans found Buddy completely cut off from normal living conditions. They took him in for a while, but after just one month in their home, he was surrendered to a local Texas shelter.
Sadly, as no one showed interest in this poor boi, Buddy was scheduled for euthanasia.
Just before subjecting him to his inevitable fate, the shelter unexpectedly found his microchip, which indicated Buddy had a family. However, when they contacted his original owner, they were shocked by the response!
Buddy’s hooman wanted nothing to do with him and was perfectly fine with Buddy being euthanized.
“At the shelter, they discovered Buddy had a microchip and an owner! Normally, this would be a reason to celebrate, a way to reunite a lost dog with its owner. But heartbreakingly, the owner wanted nothing to do with Buddy,” CUDDLY stated in their website post.
Upon learning about his unfortunate situation, a small rescue shone a light on his story. This was enough for one young couple to decide to intervene and take him in on a foster basis, allowing Buddy to escape the worst possible scenario once again!
However, the sad truth was – he was far from healthy!
The couple soon learned that Buddy had a severely damaged heart and lungs, preventing him from even standing. The rescue advised the couple to return the dog to the shelter, as they weren’t able to fund his recovery.
This, however, didn’t stop the couple from trying to help Buddy – at any cost. They spent thousands of dollars on his vet bills and eventually reached out to Hoardin’ Huskies Rescue in Sumter, South Carolina.
In cooperation with CUDDLY, an online fundraising platform that supports thousands of shelters around the world, Hoarding’ Huskies rushed Buddy straight to veterinary care.
For the first time in what seemed like forever, Buddy received proper treatment. And now, he’s on his way to a full recovery!
It took Buddy’s fosters almost five hours of driving to get this dog to a vet clinic. During the ride, they needed to supply him with an oxygen tank that was almost empty upon their arrival.
“The trip was nerve-wracking for Buddy and his fosters as he traveled with an oxygen tank that was nearly depleted over the 4 1/2-hour drive,” a Cuddly team states.
Buddy was constantly sputtering for air due to the seriousness of his condition. As a result, he was immediately rushed to the ER, where his treatment began.
This resilient pup is headed for a long and exhausting recovery process. However, the vet team hopes that with proper care and support, Buddy will emerge from this battle as a winner.
“He is still on oxygen but overall, he is recuperating great! Buddy needs two more weeks of resting and then hopefully, we are praying that he is going to be okay,” Cuddly reported in their latest update.
Despite all he has been through, Buddy never stopped hoping. Now that he has everything he needs for a speedy recovery, there’s no doubt that this good boi will soon see the light at the end of the tunnel!
