There has been recent speculation that Cristiano Ronaldo could make a sensational return to Manchester United, this time in a different role. The Portuguese star, who took the footballing world by storm with the Red Devils between 2003 and 2009, is being linked with a possible return to the club that made him famous, but not as a player.
After six brilliant years at Manchester United, Ronaldo made history at Real Madrid, where he lifted 16 major trophies, including four Champions Leagues, solidifying his position as one of the greatest players of all time. In 2022, he returned to Old Trafford after a three-year stint at Juventus, in an exciting and highly anticipated return. However, his second spell at the English club was not the fairytale that many expected.
Amid speculation about a possible return to Manchester United, this time as a manager or coach, Ronaldo was asked about the possibility. In response, he stated: “I will always have a special affection for Manchester United. The club was essential to my career and I will always have incredible memories there. However, I am focused on the current challenges and the future. You never know what fate has in store, but for now, my dedication is 100% focused on Al-Nassr and the Portuguese national team.”
Ronaldo, now 39, continues to play at a high level for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, where he has another 12 months left on his contract. With 60 goals in 66 appearances in all competitions for the Saudi club, the Portuguese star continues to prove that age is just a number.
Meanwhile, former United striker Louis Saha commented: “Cristiano Ronaldo has the passion and dedication to return to Manchester United one day, whether as a manager or even as a coach. He is a natural winner and I am certain he will thrive in whatever role he chooses.”
Despite the speculation and support from figures like Saha, Ronaldo appears focused on his current commitments, but leaves open the possibility of an unexpected future. Will United fans be able to see him back at Old Trafford, this time on the touchline? Only time will tell.
