Although shelter workers see many dogs in their line of duty, there’s always one special dog that stands out.
Matilda, a beautiful puppy, was taken in by the Douglas County Animal Shelter. Right away, the staff noticed something unique about Matilda—she was always cheerful and excited. In fact, she was adopted almost immediately after arriving at the shelter.
What surprised the shelter staff even more was that Matilda had faced a tough start in life.
When the shelter found the two-month-old puppy, she had skin irritation and was suffering from worms. She had been a stray on the streets of Georgia since birth.
Yet, despite all these challenges, Matilda never lost her joyful spirit, always wagging her tail.
A volunteer named Santina Sanders shared with The Dodo that Matilda was incredibly affectionate, saying she gave “the most amazing kisses” and describing her as the most wonderful thing ever.
Peebles and More Animal Rescue, another rescue group, also fell in love with the sweet puppy, especially because of her gentle nature. Sanders wasn’t the only one who noticed Matilda’s loving personality.
Teresa Bulls Ciofalo, one of the organization’s directors, bonded with the cheerful and energetic Matilda, and as a result, she decided to rescue the dog from the shelter and place her in a foster home.
When the puppy’s new foster dad came to pick her up, Matilda’s happiness was so evident that she didn’t stop wagging her tail even during the hour-and-a-half car ride home.
In fact, she wags her tail so enthusiastically that it makes her walk a bit crooked.
Matilda is a delightful dog, but there’s one thing she doesn’t care for—collars. When her foster dad, Rich, tried to put a collar on her, she stopped wagging her tail, a clear sign she wasn’t a fan.
But aside from the collar, Matilda is thrilled with everything else in her new home.
She loves spending time with her foster siblings, playing with her toys, and helping her human brother with his schoolwork. She often goes to him to lend a hand with his tasks.
