Alaskan Malamutes are sociable and lively creatures who eat a lot and produce even more fur. But, keep your large dog on a leash because they’re hunters at heart and may go after wildlife if permitted to wander freely in the broad outdoors. They’re also excellent climbers and diggers, so keeping these adorable canines contained is a tremendous chore.

If you provide them with the love and attention they need, this breed of dog may live for 12 to 15 years. Because Alaskan Malamutes were developed to pull sleds in severe winter climes, they need a lot of exercises. So going for a stroll (or rather a run) is not an option! Give your dog lots of mobility unless you prefer hearing it growl in frustration.

Malamutes get along well with children. Yet, because they are huge dogs, it is still necessary to watch playtime between them and your kids. Dogs don’t often understand how huge and strong they are.

Nevertheless, before you rush off to your local shelter or dog breeder to rescue an Alaskan Malamute, you should be informed of some of the breed’s health difficulties. These cute creatures are in danger of hip dysplasia, a hereditary defect in which their hip sockets require surgery to rectify. This may be costly and, if left untreated, can develop into arthritis later in life. As a result, you should ensure that you have documentation proving that the dog’s parents do not have this hereditary condition.

Alaskan Malamutes are also at risk of inheriting polyneuropathy. This implies that their neurological system becomes disorganized, which can result in a loss of coordination and frailty.
