The transfer page on Transfermarkt has just updated the value of the players. Accordingly, the price of superstar Lionel Messi of Inter Miami, currently playing in the MLS (USA), continues to decrease by 5 million euros.
The 2024 season in MLS is in full swing in the first rounds. And the website Transfermarkt has just updated the estimated transfer prices of 122 players. Of course, the biggest star of the tournament will be the biggest focus this time: Messi.
The 2022 World Cup champion arrived in MLS in the summer of 2023 after his contract with PSG ended and has caused a huge impact from the media to the field in North America. Messi boosted Inter Miami jersey sales and significantly increased MLS’s market share. Transfermarkt valued him in November 2023 at 35 million euros.
However, with recent constant injuries, limited playing time, and poor performance, this transfer site has revalued the owner of 8 Golden Balls. Accordingly, Messi’s price on the transfer market from 35 million euros to 30 million euros.
“Messi is still the No. 1 star in MLS and even though he is older, he is still one of the best players on the planet. Of course, age is an issue, even if that person is Messi. He is increasingly struggling with minor injuries and the inability to keep prices high is inevitable, an inevitable rule,” emphasized Dominic Becker, data administrator of Transfermarkt for North America.
Despite the price reduction, Messi is still the most expensive player over 34 years old on the planet, twice the price of Robert Lewandowski (15 million euros) and of course higher than the most highly valued star in MLS: Thiago Almada (22 years old, Atlanta United FC). Messi’s fellow countryman is valued at 27 million euros.
Messi is not the only Inter Miami player whose price has dropped. His close friends Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets (both 35 years old) had their payout reduced from 3 million to 2.5 million euros.
