In the interview quoted by Forbes, the Barca captain refused to compare his student with Lionel Messi.

After the match, Mallorca coach Javier Aguirre said that Yamal’s playing style reminded him of Lionel Messi. However, Xavi affirmed that this comparison is really lame, because his former teammate has reached the peak of glory, while Yamal has only taken the first steps in his career.
”No one can compare with Messi,” Xavi said.
”We are talking about the best player in the history of this sport, he should not be compared with others.
As for Yamal, this guy did not play well in confrontations and this was not his best day. But he made a dribble and scored a great goal. Therefore, Yamal brings a difference.”
